Saying Goodbye to March

As the month ends, the earth is marching toward spring, and I readily embrace the change of seasons. March fiercely attacked New England this winter as snow and frigid temperatures were the norm and not the exception. Now that I look back at the past two years, we have faced a multitude of battles daily; navigating the pandemic, climatic change, senseless war, all interrupting the earth’s equilibrium, and our winter was not an exception.

I am sending calm and peace to the universe for days warming the ground, encouraging spring flowering, and basking our weary earth in a happy, glowing aura.

Winter 2022 was a beast that clawed across New England relentlessly without breathing room between storms and negative temperatures. My prescription for blasting neverending storms is comfort food. Hearty, stick-to-your-ribs dishes that insulate against arctic winds that knock on windows, begging to come inside a warm home.

Despite winters’ umbrage our family managed to forget the weather and celebrate four family members’ birthdays. My husband and three grandchildren, and warming us all!

The last days of March found me previewing spring by creating a beautiful, flavorful salad.

And although asparagus is available all year long in markets, spring reminds me of asparagus flavored with the smidgen of lemon.

The adage “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.” was true. On March 31, 2022, our area’s high temperature was 63° F.

Yes, it was an interesting winter, one that I do not want to repeat, yet happy to embrace the beauty of every season, viewing earth’s majesty even when frightfully fierce!

Enjoy!
